01/07/2024

(Arzignano, Vicenza) Italy – Paolo Girelli, president of ILSA, has been recently elected president of Assofertilizzanti-Federchimica. The appointment took place during the recent assembly for the renewal of positions within the confederation, which represents the majority of Italian companies in the fertilizer sector.

The newly elected president has stated that his primary goal is to improve dialogue with public authorities to ensure that innovations introduced by companies, which enjoy recognized European leadership, can be swiftly adopted. This aims to maintain and enhance the sector's competitiveness while guaranteeing high-quality products in terms of nutrition and environmental protection.

During the conference on soil health and fertility organized by Assofertilizzanti on the occasion of the assembly, the newly elected president made a direct appeal to Bruno Caio Faraglia, head of the Central Phytosanitary Service, Plant Production Department of the Directorate General for Rural Development at Masaf (Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Forests), who joined via video conference. Faraglia confirmed the need for a modern regulatory framework that values correct and transparent production cycles and optimizes the use of raw materials, even from a circular economy perspective.

The 61 companies that are members of Assofertilizzanti account for over 90 percent of the Italian sector's turnover, which exceeded one billion euros in 2023. The industries in this sector employ approximately 2,500 people in Italy, with a predominance of Italian-owned companies. During the assembly, the new presidents of the commodity groups were also elected: Massimo Rossini for mineral fertilizers, Luigi Petralli for organo-mineral fertilizers, organic fertilizers, soil improvers, and substrates, and Stefano Tagliavini for specialty fertilizers.
